Cutera’s truFlex is a non-invasive muscle stimulation treatment designed to strengthen, firm and tone targeted areas of the body with no downtime.

The treatment can be used to improve muscle tone and definition in areas such as the abdomen, buttocks and thighs. truFlex uses Cutera’s Multi-Directional Stimulation (MDS) technology to deliver controlled electrical impulses to the muscles. These impulses trigger repeated muscle contractions, similar to the natural process that occurs when muscles are activated during exercise.

Treatment can be customised to the individual, with different stimulation modes and intensity levels allowing us to adapt the session according to the muscles being targeted, your starting point and your treatment goals.

A course of treatments is recommended to progressively strengthen and condition the targeted muscles, helping to create a firmer and more defined appearance.
The Stockbridge clinic

truFlex in Edinburgh

truFlex is a non-surgical body treatment designed for people looking to improve muscle tone, strength and definition without surgery or significant recovery time.

Unlike treatments that primarily target unwanted fat, truFlex works directly with the underlying muscles. This makes it particularly useful when lack of muscle definition is contributing to the appearance of an area.

At The Stockbridge Clinic, truFlex treatments are personalised to your body and goals. A consultation allows us to assess the area you would like to improve and determine whether muscle stimulation alone, or a combination approach to body contouring, would be most appropriate.

Before and after truFlex treatment

During treatment, applicators are positioned over the selected muscle groups and controlled electrical stimulation causes the muscles to repeatedly contract.

The intensity can be adjusted throughout your appointment. You will feel the muscles contracting and relaxing, similar to the sensation of completing a concentrated workout, but there are no injections, incisions or anaesthetic required.

There is no significant downtime after truFlex, although the muscles may temporarily feel tired or mildly sore following treatment.

At The Stockbridge Clinic, our Stockbridge Muscle Protocol includes a course of six truFlex treatments.

truFlex can also be combined with truSculpt when both unwanted fat and muscle definition are contributing to the treatment area. Our Stockbridge Definition Protocol combines one truSculpt treatment with four truFlex treatments for one area, allowing us to address both fat and underlying muscle as part of the same body contouring plan.

Concerns this will help

Body Definition

Body shape is influenced by several different tissues, including fat and muscle. Where improving underlying muscle definition is the main objective, truFlex can be used independently. Where both localised fat and muscle tone contribute to the concern, truFlex may be combined with truSculpt as part of a personalised treatment plan.

Reduced Muscle Tone

Muscle tone can change with age, periods of inactivity and changes in exercise habits. By creating repeated contractions in targeted muscle groups, truFlex can help condition and strengthen the muscles as part of a course of treatment.

Poor Muscle Definition

Muscle definition is influenced by muscle size and strength, body composition, genetics and lifestyle. Even people who exercise regularly may find that particular muscle groups are more difficult to develop or define. truFlex provides targeted stimulation to selected muscles to support improved tone, strength and definition.

FAQs

Most anti-wrinkle treatments last 3-4 months. Some advanced treatments, such as jaw slimming for teeth grinding or treatment for excessive sweating, may last 4-6 months or longer, depending on the area treated and individual response.

Not necessarily. Suitability is assessed individually and is not based on reaching a particular level of fitness. Your medical history, current activity levels and the muscles you would like to target will all be considered during consultation.

Potentially, depending on the areas you would like to address. The applicators can be positioned to stimulate selected muscle groups, and your therapist can advise whether treating additional areas would be appropriate for you.

Muscle tone and development are not always completely symmetrical. If you have a noticeable difference between sides, this should first be assessed to understand what is causing it and whether targeted muscle stimulation would be appropriate.

truFlex will not be suitable for everyone. Because the treatment uses electrical muscle stimulation, your medical history and any implanted medical or electronic devices need to be discussed before treatment. A consultation allows the team to identify any contraindications and confirm whether treatment can be carried out safely.
