What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a brand name for a medication called tirzepatide, which is used primarily to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. It's a once-weekly injectable drug that patients self inject.

Tirzepatide works by mimicking two hormones that are naturally involved in regulating blood sugar and appetite: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide). By activating the receptors for both of these hormones, Mounjaro helps by:

1. Reducing appetite by increasing the sensation of fullness, in turn promoting weight loss
2. Regulating blood sugar levels by improving insulin secretion in response to meals.
