Scarring

Stockbridge clinic

What is scarring?

Scarring occurs when the skin heals after an injury, acne, surgery, or burns, leading to the formation of fibrous tissue. Factors like genetics, the severity of the injury, and inflammation during healing influence the extent of scarring.

Deeper wounds tend to cause more pronounced scars.
Acne scars, for example, result from inflammation that damages skin tissue.

What treatments improve scarring?

Treatments for scarring include topical creams with ingredients like silicone or retinoids, which promote skin healing and reduce scar appearance.

Laser therapy, SecretRF, microneedling, and chemical peels can also improve texture.

Pitted and hollow scars can also be treated with careful use of dermal fillers alongside "subcision" to lift out hollowing in a targeted way.

No two patients experience the same scarring so treatment should be individualised to you. Book a consultation with one of our clinicians to discuss how to improve any scarring affecting your confidence.

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of a device with fine needles that create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process, boosting collagen and elastin production. The increased collagen helps improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, scars, and stretch marks, and promote overall skin rejuvenation. The procedure is typically performed with a dermaroller or a motorized pen-like device.

Medical Grade Skincare

Obagi Medical Skin Care is a line of dermatologist-developed skincare products designed to address various skin concerns, including aging, pigmentation, acne, and sun damage. The brand offers a range of clinically proven products containing prescription-strength ingredients like tretinoin, hydroquinone, and vitamin C, aimed at improving skin health and appearance. Obagi products work by promoting cell turnover, enhancing skin hydration, and improving elasticity, helping to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and discolouration.

Medical Grade Skin Peels

Skin peels, or chemical peels, are treatments that use exfoliating agents to remove dead skin cells and stimulate skin renewal. The procedure involves applying a chemical solution, often containing acids like glycolic, salicylic, or trichloroacetic acid, to the skin. These acids break down the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed more easily. Depending on the strength of the peel, it can target surface-level issues like fine lines, acne, and pigmentation.

Secret RF Microneedling

Secret RF is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy. During the procedure, fine needles create tiny channels in the skin, while RF energy is delivered to deeper layers, stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin. This treatment effectively improves skin texture, reduces wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation, and enhances overall skin tone and elasticity. It’s minimally invasive with little downtime and offers long-lasting, natural-looking results.
