What is Acne Scarring?

Acne scars are a widespread and often distressing dermatological issue that occurs following the healing of acne lesions. The scars are the result of inflamed blemishes caused by skin pores filled with excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria.

When the rupture occurs near the skin's surface, the lesion is usually minor and heals quickly. However, when the break is deep, infected material can spill into surrounding tissue, creating deeper and more lasting lesions. In the skin's attempt to repair these wounds, new collagen fibers form. These repairs may not replicate the original skin's smoothness, resulting in the visible mark we recognize as a scar.

The physical appearance of acne scars is only one aspect of their impact. The psychological toll can be equally, if not more, significant. These scars can greatly affect a person's self-esteem, confidence, and overall emotional well-being. In severe cases, they can even lead to depression or anxiety.

There are several types of scars that can be caused by acne - correct diagnosis and a customised treatment approach is crucial to provide optimal outcomes in your scar reduction treatment.

Medical Grade Skin Peels

Skin peels, or chemical peels, are treatments that use exfoliating agents to remove dead skin cells and stimulate skin renewal. The procedure involves applying a chemical solution, often containing acids like glycolic, salicylic, or trichloroacetic acid, to the skin. These acids break down the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed more easily. Depending on the strength of the peel, it can target surface-level issues like fine lines, acne, and pigmentation.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotide cosmetic treatment involves the use of products derived from DNA, to rejuvenate and revitalise the skin. These treatments typically involve injecting polynucleotides into targeted areas to promote tissue repair, stimulate collagen production, and enhance skin hydration and elasticity. The DNA-based compounds in polynucleotides contain growth factors that help regenerate skin cells, improving skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. This treatment is often used for fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and skin aging.

Secret RF Microneedling

Secret RF is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy. During the procedure, fine needles create tiny channels in the skin, while RF energy is delivered to deeper layers, stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin. This treatment effectively improves skin texture, reduces wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation, and enhances overall skin tone and elasticity. It’s minimally invasive with little downtime and offers long-lasting, natural-looking results.
